HELLO MDBC :))
We're excited to see you back after a week off our normal schedule for reading week! Hope you had fun taking part in #mdbc-moves, doing our recommended dboat yoga, and at our virtual dryland!
Now that we're back to normal, a few important things for the week up ahead (so make sure to read through):
1. GYM TUTORIALS: As per our Discord announcement Friday, our gym tutorials sign-ups are officially out on Eventbrite! Beginning October 20th, we'll be holding 1 hour sessions at varying times to cover:
the different exercises we'll be using in our upcoming fit tests
how to set up and use the paddle ergometer in DBAC
These tutorials are mandatory for all members – both new and returning – so make sure to sign up fast (each session is capped at 28)! The tutorials are not only for you to get used to what we'll be testing in the fit tests throughout the year, but to also help get you started when it comes to you're structuring your own personal workouts. Also, speaking as someone who hadn't stepped foot into a gym before coming to one of these tutorials, they really help make you feel comfortable within the gym if you're completely new to it, so don't be afraid :))
Bring a water bottle, clothes to workout in, running/gym shoes, and your student card! Directions to sports hall are included on the Eventbrite. Excited to see us all get started in the gym!!
2. BONFIRE NIGHT: We'll be holding our social bonfire night next Sunday, October 23rd (7-9:30 pm) at Altitude bonfire! Come join the rest of your members for smores, games, and singing with friends :))
We're really hyped to see everyone all together, both new faces and old, so make sure to sign up through Eventbrite (also included on our Linktree). Here's some more details about the night below:
Cost per entry is $5 (this fee includes cost for renting the space and snacks)
To secure a spot, sign-up through Eventbrite and e-transfer the cost to macdboat@gmail.com (with your first name, last name, and MDBC Bonfire - Oct 23 in the subject line)
This event is NOT limited to Mac Dboat members but anyone interested in coming out, so feel free to invite your friends!
Feel free to bring instruments if you have any!
Not sure where the Altitude bonfire is? If you type "Alpine Tower" into Google Maps, it should get you close! Come in through the large open gate and you’ll see us there :) You can also meet execs at the Oval Field (where we've been holding drylands, located next to DBAC) at 6:55 PM, and we’ll be happy to walk you over!
3. Pool practice changes: Given the various pool closures during our last week of pool practices, and that we're also in the middle of revamping our current pool schedule (trying to avoid those late night practices LOL), we've decided to cancel all night pool sessions for this week. Additionally, any other pool sessions for the week will be entirely optional; no attendance points will be gained/lost during this week for pool practice! We're hoping to have our new pool practice schedule up soon, and will update as soon as we do :)
4. Cancellation policy + how to cancel through Eventbrite: We understand that having to cancel 12 hours before the practice is a bit tough, so we've changed the policy to having to cancel THROUGH EVENTBRITE at least 2 hours before the practice starts (but please still dm an exec to let them know as well).
To find out how to cancel through Eventbrite, check out the FAQs on our website! (underneath dryland/pool practice FAQS)
Additionally, tickets are now going to be available until an hour before each practice begins, in case you'd like to sign up last minute (not recommended but sometimes schedules free up last minute LMAO so go for it :))
5. Being sick/injured/etc.: And last but not least, if you're not feeling well or have an extenuating circumstance, please don't push yourself to come to practice, and don't worry about the attendance point; just make sure to dm an exec to let us know. We're usually more than understanding when it comes to not being able to make it to drylands/pool due to being sick, injured, etc., and while we definitely love that you're all so eager to come and workout, your health comes first (please rest up and make sure you're all taking care of yourselves)! Just make sure to still dm an exec to let them know that you might not be able to make it to practices for a week or two depending on how you're feeling, and keep us updated on when you're feeling better too of course - communication is key.
TO REASSURE YOU ALL, we take all of this into account when we're looking at attendance for roster decisions later in the year (you're not gonna be at a disadvantage for missing a few weeks because you weren't feeling well). Having said that, we hope you're all doing ok given that it's flu season and also midterm season....
This was kinda a long weekly update, so TLDR:
- make sure to sign up for gym tutorials!
- come to our bonfire this Sunday night!!
- night pool practices are cancelled this week!!!
- cancellation policies have been slightly changed
- and as always, sign up for your weekly drylands + pool practices 0_0
An exciting week ahead to get us back into it, and we can't wait :)) See you soon!!! (and good luck for more midterms to come)
