Week of Oct 18 – MDBC Updates

Welcome back everyone! We hope you all enjoyed your reading week.

1. Bonfire Social! This Friday, October 22 from 7-9pm, we are hosting a bonfire social at Altitude Bonfire (On campus)! We plan on having hot chocolate, games and music all for only $5! It is not limited to MDBC members, we welcome you all to bring some friends and have a good time to end off the week! More information about sign-up can be found on our LinkTree.

2. Paddle Pals Do you want to get to know some of your MDBC members better? Are you a new member and still don’t know how to get started? Or even a returning member who wants to pass on the knowledge? Well, the Paddle Pals program is perfect for you! If you are interested in joining or being a pod leader, fill out this form (Also on our Linktree) by October 29 so we can put members into groups based on responses. There will be more information and updates to come! The form can be found here: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=B2M3RCm0rUKMJSjNSW9HcvhfK_XCFKJIu7dRlv-yGipURUZJRFBDNTlCSVdGN0s0UENFWUo0SzdPMCQlQCN0PWcu

3. Gym intro sessions Starting this Friday, the exec team will be hosting gym sessions at DBAC (David Bradley Athletic Centre). We intend on showing members proper form for squats, deadlift, bench press, Pendlay rows and as well as a tutorial for the Paddle erg. These sessions are mandatory and will count towards attendance as well as be crucial for upcoming fitness testing (tentatively taking place mid-November). We ask that everyone attending a session sign up based on the Eventbrite time (See the Schedules & Sign-ups on the website for links) slots two days prior (at the earliest). *If you are unable to register through the pulse website, you unfortunately cannot join that session if there are tickets outstanding. We must abide by their process as we are using their facilities.

4. Gym Tracker + Strava running challenge The MDBC coaches have created a gym tracker to allow everyone to be accountable for monitoring their progress and growth over the school year. Additionally, due to possible scheduling conflicts with drylands, it is possible to obtain attendance points as per the criteria on the tracker. You can find the Gym Tracker here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1g2YB8GsEMPbaBGUh_iLuyU4kxurD9ICe598ZjjUXAwg/edit#gid=319254599 They have also included a Strava running challenge. For those unfamiliar with Strava, it is an app on your phone that will track distances for running, walking, cycling and other activities. The challenge we have specifically is a running challenge. To join, download the app and add “Luke Nguyen” as a friend so he can add you to the challenge. You can find his Strava profile here: https://www.strava.com/athletes/91313133

5. Drylands All dryland sessions will be running this week as scheduled! Do sign up on the Eventbrite and we hope to see you all there! *Additionally, if it is not your first time attending a dryland and you have not paid the $15 team fee, please do so prior to arrival for the scheduled dryland. We will be checking that amongst other things. This is a one-time $15 fee to join the Mac Dragon Boat Club as a general member. Follow the instructions on the EventBrite page for more information.

That is all for weekly announcements! We have many things going on during this time of year so we hope you can all make it out! Any questions can be directed to our social medias.

Go get ‘em tiger,
